Waterloo Region townships not immune to homelessness

“And my guess is that might be the perception of many of the people that live there and if it does exist it is more hidden than it might be in an urban centre,” Erb said. Erb said homeless township residents might also be making their way to the city where they can access support services, hot meals and be close to others who are having housing issues.

“We have to spread the resources that we have in the region over all municipalities and if there’s a need in the townships, we have to respond to that as well,” Erb said, explaining he wants more detail from staff. Erb said affordability is especially difficult for seniors who are selling their large homes or farms and want to downsize within their own community but can’t afford it.
