From Friends of the Campaign

  • Having lived in Waterloo for over 40 years, and with great knowledge and confidence in the candidate, I am thrilled to endorse Jim Erb for Regional Council. We would be hard pressed to find a more dedicated citizen in this community than Jim. Whether it's in business, civic or service work, or as dedicated family, man Jim possesses the refreshing integrity that we so desperately need in elected representatives. Our family is happy to say that we will be voting for Jim Erb!

  • Jim truly believes in the power of our community. He understands Waterloo Region's unique history and is active in responding to our most pressing and emerging issues. I've been very impressed with Jim's willingness to listen and learn about issues of equity, inclusion and the concerns facing women in particular. He has been a strong advocate for the social sector and our most vulnerable residents who rely on our services. I am very happy to endorse his campaign.

  • Beyond a doubt, I confidently endorse Jim Erb for Waterloo Regional Council.  Jim is an outstanding business and community leader, and caring philanthropist with extensive knowledge and understanding of many of the issues facing our community today.  He personifies the finest ideals of leadership, and is well known and respected for his strong social conscience and dedication to helping others.  I am honoured to have had Jim as a mentor and role model since meeting him in 1989 when he was on the board to build the Clay and Glass Gallery in Uptown Waterloo.  A dedicated supporter of the arts, Jim is an exemplar community builder, and his wisdom and advice continually help guide me to achieve my own goals in both my career and in my volunteer roles.  Jim cares deeply about our community and demonstrates honesty, fairness, and thoughtfulness in everything that he does - all qualities that I believe are vital to making Waterloo Region a place where everyone is included and belongs.

  • Jim is, and always has been, a highly effective, passionate, energetic community builder.

I have known Jim for over 15 years and have worked closely with him on many initiatives in the Rotary club that we are both members of. I have always enjoyed his patient yet persistent way of conveying ideas, building consensus and ensuring that commitments are met.

Over ten years ago Jim introduced the Turkey Drive to our Rotary club. Since then he has galvanized the members of the club, leading the development of this fund raising initiative to what it is today- a $400,000 yearly relief effort for families and individuals who are in need at Christmas.

  • I have had the honour of knowing Jim in various capacities.  The story that I would like to share was when I was president of the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club.  To that point, our club had not had any women members.  Jim presented a plan and some prospective members that would help us change that status that we had.  Over the next number of months, our Rotary club went from no female members to 7 female members today, and growing.  Jim took the initiative to grow our club with both women and men as members, and the impact that it has on the community, and we are all better for that.

  • I am pleased to support Jim’s candidacy for Regional Council. Over the past 20 years. I have had the privilege of working with Jim on various community initiatives. He has a progressive, forward thinking approach to the challenges we face and has long been a champion for the less fortunate in our community. I believe Jim’s leadership around the council table will benefit citizens across the region.

  • During the time I was a municipal affairs reporter for the local CTV station, Jim served on Waterloo City Council. He would speak his mind on local issues very effectively because he always did his homework and clearly understood the implications of his decision-making.

In 1998, when I retired from my 28-year career at CTV, Jim, who was co-owner of Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, invited me to come on board as a funeral director’s assistant.  I observed Jim’s love of the community and saw how he carried out his leadership role with care and grace.

It was a privilege and honour for me to be a part of Jim’s funeral home family.

  • Jim listens carefully, weigh options, and makes decisions thoughtfully, based on the facts. As a long-time resident of Waterloo Region, he has demonstrated his commitment to social justice and the well-being of residents through all aspects of his professional career, political experience, and volunteer service.  For Waterloo Region to continue to thrive, we need new voices. Jim Erb is a new voice and has the vision and motivation to make positive change for the future.

  • Jim and I have known each other for over 30 years. Jim is one of those special people who constantly volunteer and serve their community. He has served on Waterloo Council, run a successful business and continued to volunteer for various charities. His ability to listen and understand and act on people's needs, is Jim. This fall's Regional Council election promises to bring change. With his abilities and experience Jim should be part of this change.

  • We deeply appreciated Jim Erb's involvement with Marianne along with Jim and Sue Hallman to chair The Working Centre's fundraising drive to raise $1,200,000 towards creating 17 units of housing for the persistently homeless. Jim understands the issues of affordable, supportive housing. Over the years Jim has been a tireless worker, putting his heart and soul into many important community initiatives.

  • Jim has grown from a kind and compassionate funeral director who cared deeply for the families he served to a community leader with passion for the vulnerable and less fortunate.  As a member of the Regional Council he will use his voice to ensure a better life for these folks.  For this reason, I highly support his candidacy.
